CMOS technology builds on significant quantum progress

Good morning, in this edition of Archer’s Newsletter, we highlight the recent technological achievements by the Archer team, which build on the considerable progress made this year in the development of the 12CQ quantum chip.

At Archer we take an over-the-horizon view of what we do because our technologies, once developed, have the potential to be a key enabler for so many other industries.

Using CMOS chip technology to detect quantum information in the 12CQ qubit material at room temperature was a step-change achievement and a major technological feat because it provides a potential pathway for the development of practical quantum-enabled mobile devices.

Significant innovation was required to firstly, design and develop the CMOS devices, and secondly, have these devices manufactured using standard industrial semiconductor processes.

Keep in mind current quantum computing qubit architectures rely on custom made fabrication, unlike the electronics found in your devices that are mostly made using CMOS technology.

As you would appreciate, this is complex work, and success requires Archer to collaborate with world-leading organisations. The CMOS devices were developed by colleagues at EPFL (a Swiss federal institute of technology), and manufactured by industry behemoth Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

To date, Archer has a solid development track record, is well funded, has assembled a great team, created new technology, been granted several patents, and now has access to the facilities and infrastructure to continue moving forward confidently and competently.

We are constantly challenging ourselves to achieve what many thought was unachievable, and I look forward to updating you on our exciting progress.
