The semiconductor decade

I would like to share a McKinsey & Company article titled ‘The semiconductor decade: A trillion-dollar industry’, in the context of where the semiconductor industry and linked markets are headed and what could drive demand over the long term.

The Article provides a snapshot of the industry margins and growth projections from an analysis of 48 listed companies, arriving at some of the following insights:

• The global semiconductor industry is poised for a decade of growth and is projected to become a trillion-dollar industry by 2030
• Overall growth in the global semiconductor market is driven by computing and data storage, automotive, and wireless industries
• The outlook for the semiconductor industry is positive, notwithstanding potential short-term volatility due to supply-demand mismatches and changing global economic and geopolitical outlook

As the impact of digital technology on people and businesses accelerates, the semiconductor markets and the industry in general is a strategic focus for governments, businesses, and investors.
